Join the LGBT Chamber of Commerce of Illinois as we bring together our LatinX Affinity Network. This group serves as a network to highlight conversations and networking opportunities around the LatinX LGBTQ+ community and allies.

For this discussion, we will focus on mentorship in the LatinX LGBTQ+ business community.

Bio's 

Jazmin Garcia is a queer, first-generation, Mexican-American dedicated to expanding leadership opportunities for LGBTQAI and Latinx professionals. Her experience growing up across borders in San Diego, California and Tijuana, Baja California inspired her to be a curious leader and prompted her passion for public service and social impact. Professionally, Jazmin has extensive experience in fundraising and grant-making specific to entrepreneurship, small business expansion, jobs, skills and neighborhood revitalization. Jazmin is dedicated to the development of leadership for all youth and entrepreneurs and is an avid volunteer with ChicagoNext, Chicago Sister Cities International, The Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, University of San Diego Senior Legacy, Chicago Scholars, and the Association of Latino/as Motivating Action (ALMA) Chicago amongst many other organizations. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of San Diego, and is the National Vice President of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Alumni Association (PPF 2015-2016) and the Nonprofit and Social Impact Leader from the Baumhart Center at Loyola’s Quinlan School of Business. She is an alumnus of the Emerging Leaders Program with Chicago Women in Philanthropy and is now a Programs Committee member. 

Patricia Mota serves as the President & CEO for HACE, leading strategy, fundraising & development, professional leadership programs, and expanding organizational reach on a national scale. Patricia strives to engage experienced professionals as mentors and advisors to create a multi-generational network to support Latinx/a/o career growth. Upon taking up this leadership role, Patricia increased operating budget by 40% in less than two years of the new role, and nearly 70% in less than 3 years, increased membership from 35,000 to 77,000, along with strengthened program processes and staff capacity. Prior to promotions to CEO role, Patricia led and grasped all aspects of the organization, enhanced corporate partnerships bringing $2.5 million in new partnerships, increased membership by 120%, launched a pilot of Multicultural Leadership Program, among other corporate customized programs, impacting the lives of over 25,000. Patricia is a sought-out speaker, having presented at various conferences and for top corporations.

Alfonso Barrera is the founder of HispanicPro - the Hispanic Professional Network. HispanicPro is the largest network of Latino professionals in the state of Illinois and Wisconsin. HispanicPro exists to promote business networking and employment opportunities for diverse professionals. With over 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and social media, Alfonso is a highly visible advocate for entrepreneurship, corporate Diversity & Inclusion and a proud supporter of some of Chicago's most prominent philanthropic organizations. He has been recognized throughout the years with awards for numerous best-in-business, leadership and volunteerism achievements. In addition to serving as a business mentor, Alfonso is the Vice Chairman of Diversity and Inclusion for the Chicago chapter of SCORE. Most recently, Alfonso was honored as Chair Emeritus of the National Latino Education Institute (NLEI) Emerging Leaders Board.


David Ernesto Munar has devoted his entire professional career to building comprehensive systems of care and prevention that meet the needs of vulnerable populations. Since joining Howard Brown Health in 2014 as its President and CEO, Munar has focused on ensuring the delivery of excellent health and wellness services to Howard Brown’s patient populations, strengthening finances and operations, and positioning the organization for long-term sustainability and growth. Under his leadership, Howard Brown has expanded to include more than 10 health clinics from Englewood to Rogers Park, serving more than 34,000 people annually. Prior to Howard Brown, Munar honed his career at the AIDS Foundation of Chicago where he held several positions, including President and CEO, during his 23-year tenure with the agency. He currently serves on the governing boards of Alliance Chicago, AIDS United, the Black AIDS Institute, and Cook County Health and Hospitals System. His advocacy work has earned several accolades, including being named a Champion of Change by the White House in 2011. In 2007, he helped launch the Coalition for a National AIDS Strategy, which led to the National HIV/AIDS Strategy unveiled by President Obama in July 2010.
